About Us

InsideOut Body Therapies is a premier alternative health, wellness, and fitness studio established in 2003 in Durham, NC. The studio was founded by Deborah Matthews in 2003. She was joined by Mischa Decker in 2006 and together they have been building the InsideOut Body Therapies wellness team and serving the Durham / RTP region of North Carolina. We have been voted one of the Best Pilates studios in both the Indy’s Best of the Triangle since 2011 and in the Durham Magazine since 2017.

We strive to create a safe and welcoming environment for our diverse clientele and currently offer fitness and rehabilitation programs both virtually and in the studio. Our staff provide client-centered instruction and treatments that can be tailored for all fitness levels, shapes, sizes, genders, and ages.

InsideOut Body Therapies fitness services include Pilates, Personal Training, Physical Therapy, Yoga, and other mindful-based practices. Whether you are getting back into exercise after an injury or are looking to change up your established fitness routine, an elite athlete or an exercise novice, InsideOut Body Therapies has programs for your personal goals. The studio is a resource for Duke Athletics, UNC Football, Olympic Medalists, and the NFL, in addition to other professional athletes.

We provide postural and functional training that focuses on form, alignment, and muscular balance. Combined with core training, InsideOut Body Therapies fitness services emphasize stretching, strengthening, balance, movement coordination and control to create strong, adaptable muscles and balanced, healthy joints. Change happens from the inside out and at InsideOut Body Therapies, we have the education and experience to facilitate you on your fitness journey. Whether you choose private or semi-private instruction, or group classes, we are committed to providing quality instruction.


InsideOut Body Therapies is committed to healing and empowering through movement. Pilates, Yoga, Acupuncture and Bodywork are widely recommended by medical professionals as effective ways to reduce and manage chronic pain. Proven to be helpful with a wide variety of symptoms, our rehabilitative services seek to not only treat the injury or chronic issue, but to also address the person as a whole. Time is taken with each individual to listen and care with compassion and patience.

Treatment plans are 100% individualized and address the specific needs of each person. Therapists can also help to develop and support longer-term movement and wellness plans that include both movement and bodywork. The Back to Health Program is part of the rehabilitation services at InsideOut Body Therapies where we offer sessions, workshops, classes and a place for community for clients transitioning from physical therapy to an independent movement program.

Back to Health classes are small in size and structured to provide clients a safe and supported environment. Instructors are trained in therapeutic Pilates and provide an adaptable sequence of mindful exercises that emphasize core strengthening, joint health, and overall flexibility that can support individuals’ fitness and wellness goals. Techniques drawn from a variety of somatic practices are used to teach body awareness and to strengthen healthy movement patterns while empowering participants to move – literally and figuratively – back to health.
