Toby Matthews

Toby Matthews is a Certified Rolfer, Nationally Certified Bodyworker (NCBTMB), and Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist (LBMT) in the State of North Carolina (NC License #3687). He is also a Certified GYROTONIC® Instructor. Before becoming a Rolfer, he studied Drama, Biology, and Dance at Duke University as an A.B. Duke Scholar. Since then, he has done graduate work at The University of Akron in Theatre Arts and at Naropa University in Somatic Psychology and Dance/Movement Therapy. Toby's abiding interest is in the relationships between the body, sensation, perception, movement, and the mind. To that end, he has taught and participated in creative and contemplative movement and theatre work with Akron's New World Performance Laboratory, as well as joining his wife, Deborah, in the Study Group of Hubert Godard, Dean of Dance and Movement Analysis at the University of Paris and Rolfing® Movement Instructor at The Rolf Institute®. He apprenticed in GYROTONIC® with Skye Shansby and Cathy Van Patten. He is a member of the The Rolf Institute© and the International Association of Structural Integrators. |
