Respiratory and Immune System
The prevention and treatment of respiratory ailments such as colds and flus, infections, COPD, asthma and allergies all require a healthy immune system and proper lung function. Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine has been shown to improve the immune system while alleviating signs and symptoms of respiratory disorders.
Acupuncture has been shown to:
- Improve the immune response
- Improve energy
- Improve lung function
- Decrease respiratory signs and symptoms
The following studies are good examples of how acupuncture and herbs can improve respiratory and immune function.
A double blind, randomized, placebo controlled study on the effects of acupuncture for the treatment of persistent childhood allergic rhinitis showed that active acupuncture was more effective than sham acupuncture in decreasing symptoms and increasing symptom free days.

A study from the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine showed acupuncture significantly improved the respiratory outcome scores in the 6 minute walk distance and oxygen saturation in patients with COPD.
